The American Assembly is a national, non-partisan public affairs forum illuminating issues of public policy by commissioning research and publications, sponsoring meetings, and issuing reports, books, and other literature. Its initiatives facilitate communication and action among decision makers, lawmakers, and other leading authorities representing a broad spectrum of views and interests from all sectors. Its reports and other publications are used by government and community, by civic leaders and public officials. 




The American Evaluation Association is an international professional association of evaluators devoted to the application and exploration of program evaluation, personnel evaluation, technology, and many other forms of evaluation. Evaluation involves assessing the strengths and weaknesses of programs, policies, personnel, products, and organizations to improve their effectiveness.

The American Evaluation Association's mission is to:

  • Improve evaluation practices and methods
  • Increase evaluation use
  • Promote evaluation as a profession and
  • Support the contribution of evaluation to the generation of theory and knowledge about effective human action.

AEA has approximately 4000 members representing all 50 states in the US as well as over 60 foreign countries.


American Planning Association
APA is a nonprofit public interest and research organization committed to urban, suburban, regional, and rural planning. APA and its professional institute, the American Institute of Certified Planners, advance the art and science of planning to meet the needs of people and society.



AmericaSpeaks, a non-profit organization, engages citizens in the public decisions that impact their lives.

AmericaSpeaks develops innovative deliberative tools that work for both citizens and decision makers. These tools give citizens an opportunity to have a strong voice in public decision making within the increasingly short timeframes required of decision makers. As a result, citizens can impact decisions and those in leadership positions can make more informed, lasting decisions.


The Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR) is a professional organization dedicated to enhancing the practice and public understanding of conflict resolution. ACR represents and serves a diverse national and international audience that includes more than 6,000 mediators, arbitrators, facilitators, educators, and others involved in the field of conflict resolution and collaborative decision-making. Anyone interested in the field of conflict resolution is welcome to join.



The Canadian Institute for Public Engagement is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to building and improving best practices in public engagement. Located in Ottawa, with representation across Canada, and international connections, the Institute reports to an experienced Board of Directors and receives input from a dedicated and knowledgeable Advisory Committee. The Institute is building its membership base and will be seeking input from members along the way.

Centre for World Dialogue

Organization formed on the principles of the right to free and open discussion of ideas.  They produce a quarterly journal and host various dialogue themed events and conferences.




 CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participatioin

CIVICUS is an international alliance dedicated to strengthening citizen action and civil society throughout the world.  CIVICUS holds an annual World Assmebly - one of the largest annual civil society conferences.  CIVICUS is based in Johannesburg, South Africa.



The nonprofit Co-Intelligence Institute (CII) promotes awareness of co-intelligence and of the many existing tools and ideas that can be used to increase it. The CII embraces all such ideas and methods, and explores and catalyzes their integrated application to democratic renewal, community problems, organizational transformation, national and global crises and the creation of just, vibrant, sustainable cultures.

We research, network, advocate, and help organize leading-edge experiments and conversations in order to weave what is possible into new, wiser forms of civilization.



Cooperative Conservation
Cooperative Conservation describes the efforts of landowners, communities, conservation groups, industry, and governmental agencies who join together to conserve our environment. Through cooperative conservation, citizens from every walk of life enhance, restore, and protect lands, waters, air, and wildlife resources on public and private lands. Through cooperative conservation, citizens play a central and substantive role in the stewardship and governance of the environments in which they live, work, and play.

The DDC is a network of researchers working together to strengthen the field of deliberative democracy.

 Development Research Centre on Citizenship, Participation & Accountability
The Development Research Centre on Citizenship, Participation and Accountability, or Citizenship DRC, is an international research partnership exploring new forms of citizenship that will help make rights real.



Educators for Community Engagement

Educators for Community Engagement is the only national organization committed to democratizing classrooms and communities through learning circles, service-learning, and critical dialogue.

ECE brings together college and university students, faculty, staff, and local community organizations to develop and implement creative strategies for teaching, learning, and social justice. 



   Institute of Public Administration Australia

The Institute of Public Administration Australia (IPAA) is the professional association for people interested in government reform, policy issues, trends, best practice and innovation in public sector management. IPAA NSW aims to enhance the relevance, integrity, reputation and intellectual base of the public sector.



International Association of Facilitators
The IAF encourages and supports the formation of local groups of facilitators to network and provide professional development opportunities for their members.



International Observatory on Participatory Democracy

This is a Web site that is open to all of the world's cities that want to learn about, exchange or apply experiences relating to participative democracy on a local level.

   National Assembly for Wales

The aim of HOWIS is "tStartFragment o promote the health and well being of everyone living in Wales and provide effective and efficient health services".

The site provides links to practical guides for health workers and managers on ways to involve patients and the public in decision-making.



National Association for Community Facilitators
COMMUNITY MEDIATION offers constructive processes for resolving differences and conflicts between individuals, groups, and organizations. It is an alternative to avoidance, destructive confrontation, prolonged litigation or violence. It gives people in conflict an opportunity to take responsibility for the resolution of their dispute and control of the outcome. Community mediation is designed to preserve individual interests while strengthening relationships and building connections between people and groups, and to create processes that make communities work for all of us.



 National Charrette Institute
The National Charrette Institute (NCI) is a nonprofit educational institution. We help people build community capacity for collaboration to create healthy community plans. We teach professionals and community leaders the art and science of Dynamic Planning, a holistic, collaborative planning process that harnesses the talents and energies of all interested parties to create and support a feasible plan. And we advance the fields of community planning and public involvement through research and publications.



  National Coalition for Dialogue and Deliberation
NCDD brings together those who actively practice, promote and study inclusive, high quality conversations. We believe that elevating the quality of thinking and communication in organizations and among citizens is key to solving humanity's most pressing problems.



National Institute for Advanced Conflict Resolution

The National Institute for Advanced Conflict Resolution (NIACR) was founded for the purpose of advancing the field of conflict resolution in the United States, and promoting a greater understanding of the role of mediation in resolving disputes. This website was created not only to provide an online resource for practicing mediators, but also to make available to the general public information about issues pertaining to mediation and conflict resolution.  



National Issues Forum Institute
National Issues Forums (NIF) is a nonpartisan, nationwide network of locally sponsored public forums for the consideration of public policy issues. It is rooted in the simple notion that people need to come together to reason and talk — to deliberate about common problems. Indeed, democracy requires an ongoing deliberative public dialogue.



  Public Conversations Project
Public Conversation Project promotes constructive conversations about divisive public issues and offers training in dialogue.


 Public Dialogue Consortium

A group of educators, consultants, and practitioners who promote high quality communication on group issues.



 The Public Forum Institute is an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization committed to developing the most advanced and effective means of fostering public discourse. The Forum tailors projects that advance the exchange of information and ideas by combining issue expertise with advanced program development and communications skills.



Resource Centres for Participatory Learning and Action
The RCPLA network is an alliance of seventeen different organisations from around the world, that strives to promote the empowerment of the disadvantaged through participation in their own development. The Network helps researchers and practitioners share information and experience about Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) approaches, and encourages the improved implementation of these approaches globally. The Network hopes to further the role of participatory approaches into governance structures to create change. Each member of the Network brings with it specific strengths, but are united in their desire to provide access to a variety of resources.


 Study Circles Resource Center
The Study Circles Resource Center is dedicated to finding ways for all kinds of people to engage in dialogue and problem solving on critical social and political issues. SCRC helps communities by giving them the tools to organize productive dialogue, recruit diverse participants, find solutions, and work for action and change.



The World Bank - Participation & Civic Engagement Group

The Participation and Civic Engagement Group of the Social Development Department promotes the participation of people and their organizations to influence institutions, policies and processes for equitable and sustainable development.

The Group supports World Bank units, client governments and civil society organizations to incorporate participatory approaches in the design, the implementation, the monitoring and evaluation of World Bank supported operations.  The Group works to enhance capacity for participatory processes and social accountability, and develops analytical instruments to assess constraints to the effectiveness of civil society.



IAP2 has 501(3)(c) charity status in USA and is able to receive donations from within the USA.
