Happy New Year from IAP2!
2012 Professional Development Plans
In response to your feedback about the Professional Development Plan template, (gathered informally during telephone calls with trainers), and volunteer input from trainers John Ross and Barbara Chappell, the PD Plan format for 2012 has been revised.You will notice a few changes:
  1. A simpler format
  2. An electronic format enabling IAP2 to compile a quick summary for trainers
  3. Some new questions
  4. Access to your plan at the end of the year
Thank you for taking your time to complete your Professional Development Plan. I hope you will have the time to submit it by January 31, 2012. Afterwards I will gather your suggestions and follow up with a plan for IAP2HQ to support your goals for the year.

2012 Business Plans
It's that time of year to once again submit your business plan (i.e. courses, dates and locations) for IAP2 training in 2012. Please note, the license agreement period has been extended though June 30, 2012 with a corresponding requirement for an additional 50 training days to be completed for a total of 150 from January 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012.
We are asking that you complete your plan and email it to by January 31, 2012.

Training Administration - Contractor Performance Survey
In order to work toward performance improvements in the area of training administration and develop benchmarks from this year to assist with the implementation of the strategic plan, we are asking if you would take some time to complete the online evaluation survey.

Insurance Survey Results
Thanks to the trainers who completed the survey. There were 6 replies in total and there was no conclusive direction as to whether IAP2 should pursue exploring this option (1 yes, 1 no, 1 no answer and 3 maybes).  Most trainers seem to have their own insurance and therefore given the response rate and lack of conclusion this will not be explored by IAP2 at this time. Thank you to those who provided feedback and advice through the survey. It is appreciated.

2012 IAP2 Training Calendar
IAP2HQ provides a benefit to licensed trainers to include your IAP2 training offerings on the Training Calendar on the IAP2 Web site. Training inquires are fielded everyday from those interested in taking both the Certificate Program and EOP2 around the world.

b) Mobile participatory budgeting process
A video shows a mobile-enabled participatory budgeting project, in the conflict-affected province of South-Kivu, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The results achieved by the project thus far are encouraging. As a result of efforts led by a multi-stakeholder coalition (e.g. civil society, government, academia), in 2011 the provincial government started to mandate participatory budgeting across the province.
Mobile phones have played an instrumental role in the process. Prior to the assemblies where citizens convene to decide on the budget allocation, hundreds of thousands of messages (SMS) are sent to citizens, inviting them to attend the meetings. Until this moment, over 250,000 text messages have been sent. These interventions ensure high levels of popular mobilization and foster the inclusiveness of the participatory budgeting process.  Via their mobile phones citizens can also vote for budgetary priorities and receive updates on the status of the selected public works.
