Foundations in Public Participation, formerly the ‘IAP2 Certificate in Public Participation’, has been designed with the input of leading practitioners from around the world, many of whom work with diverse populations in a variety of situations.

IAP2 continues to advance the practice of community engagement by providing practitioners with an overview of good practices in the field, and dynamic techniques to enhance impact. This unique training program equips participants with practical tools for designing and implementing effective community engagement.

Who will benefit?
Planners, scientists, policy makers and engagement practitioners needing to engage their community. Those seeking to appreciate the role of government and government approval processes related to engaging and working with the community.

The IAP2 Foundations in Public Participation program is divided into modules to focus on planning and delivery:

Module 1: Three days of Planning for Effective Public Participation - 29-31 March 2017
Module 2: Two days of Techniques for Effective Public Participation - 2-3 May 2017

Participants of the program will learn how to:

  • evaluate the scope of a decision, identify the best processes and steps;
  • clarify your public participation objectives and communicating these;
  • identify stakeholders and their issues
  • establish roles and responsibilities;
  • develop a detailed public participation plan.

Planning is a pre-requisite for Techniques.
