Foundations in Public Participation, formerly the ‘IAP2 Certificate in Public Participation’, has been designed with the input of leading practitioners from around the world, many of whom work with diverse populations in a variety of situations.


IAP2 continues to advance the practice of community engagement by providing practitioners with an overview of good practices in the field, and dynamic techniques to enhance impact. This unique training program equips participants with practical tools for designing and implementing effective community engagement.

Who will benefit?
Planners, scientists, policy makers and engagement practitioners needing to engage their community. Those seeking to appreciate the role of government and government approval processes related to engaging and working with the community.

Program

The IAP2 Foundations in Public Participation program is divided into modules to focus on planning and delivery:

Module 1: Three days of Planning for Effective Public Participation - 21-23 March 2018
Module 2: Two days of Techniques for Effective Public Participation - 19-20 April 2018

Course outcomes

This module breaks down specific implementation methods including:

  • Interviews
  • Revolving Conversations
  • Deliberative forums
  • Advisory Groups
  • Workshops
  • Card Storming
  • Citizen jury

You will also focus on how to establish and maintain effective communication throughout the process.

About the Presenters

Margaret Harvie
Leading Trainer: Margaret Harvie has been an accredited trainer since 2008 and a community engagement practitioner for 20 years. She plans and implements community engagement for publicly controversial state government infrastructure projects and regularly works with local government as they face the challenge of conversing with their communities.


Professor Roberta Ryan, Director of the Institute for Public Policy and Governance is a leading practitioner in the field of diversity and inclusion and researcher with over 30 years’ experience. Roberta combines this expertise with her social research, policy evaluation and social planning skills.
