IAP2 Communities & Chapters
Feeling alone in your quest to involve the public? Do you want to connect with local practitioners? Learn more about public participation? Get training locally? Check out our calendar. If you need resources to get you started or for renewal of your chapter, please visit our Resource Materials page.
You can also host IAP2 training as a way of promoting the practice and generating income for yourselves. Here is the information for you to host the Emotion, Outrage and Public Participation course. Guidelines are being drawn up for the Certificate course and will be available shortly.
Local Chapters
IAP2’s Chapters are the local and regional face of the organization. Chapters can be a catalyst for IAP2’s offerings locally and regionally -- tailoring the association’s offerings to the local and regional needs, circumstances, and flavors.
Chapters are a local network and a link to nearby practitioners. They offer peer support. They promote and advance the foundations of IAP2 ; core values, spectrum and code of ethics.
Virtual Communities of Practice offer ways of networking internationally on issues of common interest and promote dialogue and knowledge of practice.
The Australasian Affiliate is a trans-national association of members building communities of like-minded practitioners, researchers and advocates in public participation. In the UK and Ireland an Affiliate is under construction so watch this space!
Each community determines its own identity and capacity. Some offer gatherings and programs nearly monthly. Others focus on small local conferences offered once or twice a year. A few are "virtual," simply using e-mail to stay in touch and share news. The energy, ability, preferences, and volunteerism in each chapter determine its capacity, character, and offerings.
