Geoff Wilson is the Senior Strategy Advisor (Citizen and Stakeholder Engagement) for Capital Health in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He has nearly two decades of public sector communications expertise, including experience managing public issues in political environments, government and media relations, issues management and risk communications. He began his career at the House of Commons in Ottawa as a Legislative and Research assistant, and has spent most of his work life as a communication advisor in the government and not-for-profit sectors.  Geoff holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Public Administration degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, and has studied public relations at Algonquin College of Applied Arts in Ottawa.

 

Geoff is active in both his local and professional communities. In addition to his membership in IAP2, he is a member of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada, and has recently completed a five year term as vice president of communications on the national board of the Health Care Public Relations Association of Canada. He is currently vice-chair of the Halifax Peninsula Community Health Board, a member of Citizens for Halifax, and is a citizen representative on a municipal advisory committee in his community.

 

For the past two years Geoff has been focused on promoting an engagement culture within Capital Health. He has provided leadership and been an advocate for public participation in his organization.

Anne has been consulting strategic planning and public engagement for over 20 years, serving primarily public sector clients. She specializes in designing authentic and transparent public participation processes, bringing underrepresented voices to the table, and ethical governance. Anne has developed training courses on engaging underrepresented stakeholders and online public engagement, and has taught strategic planning and public participation design to graduate students for a number of years at the University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute for Public Affairs (from which she received her Master of Planning in Public Affairs). She also co-authored with Dr. John Bryson the Public Participation Fieldbook (2008), and served on numerous IAP2 committees and task forces prior to being elected to the IAP2 Board in 2008. Anne also serves as a local elected official representing nearly 300,000 constituents, and is a member of the E-Democracy.Org international board as well as other local and national boards and committees.

Terry Koch is a senior public affairs professional with a full range of experience in designing and implementing public involvement and government relations programs. As a founding member and past President of the Wild Rose (Alberta) Chapter of IAP2, Terry has developed a wide array of professional networks in the private, government and non-profit sectors in Alberta. He is the namesake and first recipient of the Terry Koch Award for Leadership in Wild Rose IAP2. His focus has been in local government initiatives including serving as an Executive Assistant to the Mayor of Calgary, coordinating the public involvement program for the City of Calgary Transportation Plan (GoPlan), working with Aldermen, community leaders and key stakeholders on various projects in the province.  Terry is currently the Senior Associate, Public Involvement with Stantec Consulting in Calgary.

Lucy Cole-Edelstein is a highly experienced facilitator and stakeholder engagement practitioner, with nearly 20 years experience in the government, non-government and private sectors. Lucy has designed, implemented and evaluated engagement programs in a wide range of applications including environmental assessments, infrastructure planning and construction, and policy and planning environments, and has developed social plans and social marketing strategies.
Lucy was one of the founding members of IAP2 Australasia and has been active on the committee and involved in organising events, conferences etc. She regularly presents to graduate students at the Universities of Sydney and Technology. Her passion is people and promoting a common sense, practical approach to working with people based on trust, respect and honesty.
Lucy works with clients and stakeholders to enable the straight conversations that are often needed in order to progress a particular issue, develop or drive change or to negotiate a complex outcomes.

Gale Simpson is Presidentof gWhiz Consulting Ltd. in Calgary, Alberta Canada. She has an extensive background in public relations and community relations with the Alberta provincial government and a major Alberta corporation in senior management positions. As an independent consultant since 1999, she provides public participation services to a variety of clients in government, not for profit, and the private sectors. Her consulting practice extends through the areas of planning, education, transportation, waste management, Aboriginal communities, and research and development. Throughout her career she has focused on building trust through transparent and responsible processes. She believes her success is attributed to being able to balance the expectations of a variety of stakeholders with those of the client to achieve the best possible outcomes for all. Gale is a certified licensed trainer for IAP2’s Certificate Program in Public Participation, and IAP2’s Emotion and Outrage for Public Participation. She is the Training Director for the International Board.

Stephanie brings more than 16 years of strategic communications experience within the government sector. She is a Senior Associate at Booz Allen Hamilton, an international management consulting firm, with expertise in stakeholder relationship management, public participation, and public outreach. Over the course of her career, she has supported national public involvement efforts for the U.S. Department of Defense and U.S. Department of Energy. She has worked to bridge the gap between government, advisory boards and communities, encouraging fair and transparent decision-making processes, including working with low-income communities often overlooked in the public participation process. She is currently leading her firm’s U.S. Army strategic communications business to help military organizations understand the need to partner with stakeholders for mission success. Stephanie is a certified change management and public participation practitioner.

Professor Lyn Carson is a Professorial Fellow with the Centre for Citizenship and Public Policy at UWS. Prior to her arrival, "Carson" was Academic Program Director in the United States Studies Centre at The University of Sydney. For over a decade she taught in the Department of Government and International Relations at the University of Sydney on topics relating to public administration, citizen engagement and deliberative democracy.

 

Carson is on the executive board of the International Association for Public Participation and on the editorial board of the Journal of Public Deliberation. She was involved in convening or facilitating Australia's first Consensus Conference, Australia's first two Deliberative Polls, Australia's first Citizens' Parliament, numerous Citizens' Juries and Community Summits and a host of other public engagements related to public policy exploration and improvement at local, state and national levels. Carson's introduction to formal politics and the challenges of active citizenship began in the early 1990 as a local councillor in Lismore, NSW.

John Godec is president of Godec, Randall & Associates Inc., an Arizona firm that manages projects and trains business and government in difficult, dicey, high stakes communication, consensus, crisis, conflict resolution and public involvement.  Godec is the former Director of Issues Management for Motorola Corporation, and served as Special Assistant to the Director of the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.  He is an IAF Certified Professional Facilitator©, a certificate course author and master trainer for IAP2, and a roster member at the U.S. Institute for Environmental Conflict Resolution.  Godec served on a U.S. federal task force to design a risk and emergency communication protocol for the National Governors Association.  He’s taught and managed projects in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, South Africa, Australia and Southeast Asia for corporations, and local, state, federal and tribal governments and NGOs.   Godec frequently speaks at events dealing with public participation, sustainability, crisis, conflict, consensus, and issue management, and has lectured at Arizona State, and Indiana Universities.

Nicky Leggatt is head of Stakeholder Engagement, Communications and Community Liaison for Jacobs, and is the UK President of IAP2. Nicky has nearly 20 years experience in the communications field and has been responsible for driving best practice in the UK and advises UK Government and its agencies on policy. Nicky works across a large and diverse portfolio of clients and works with them to improve how their participation and engagement processes are delivered. She is currently working with a range of organisations in the development of an International Standard in Stakeholder Engagement in an attempt to bring benchmarking and clear evaluation into the field.

Prior to her work in the consultation and participation field, Nicky worked in the UK Media industry and won awards for her innovative approaches to communication and engagement.

Kimbra White is the principal of the Melbourne based consultancy, Thorne Partners. She is a highly regarded facilitator and provides advisory services in community engagement, stakeholder engagement and board governance. Kimbra has worked extensively in state, regional and local government and the not for profit sector. Prior to establishing her own consulting company in 2002, she has held positions as Executive Director of Business East, the regional economic development board for Melbourne’s East, senior planner for the New South Wales Department of Planning in Sydney and Hobart City Council in Tasmania. Kimbra lived in Houston, Texas in the late 1990s gaining a masters degree and working for a marketing company bringing overseas products onto the US market. As a consultant since 2002, Kimbra has facilitated community engagement meetings for many Victorian Government Departments and local authorities in Melbourne.  Kimbra is an active member of the Australian Facilitators Network, Vice President of IAP2 Australasia and Australia’s representative on the IAP2 International Board.
