Wendy Green Lowe has over 20 years of experience in group process facilitation and public participation management.  She has managed large- and small-scale public participation programs within approved budgets and on schedule to meet client objectives on highly controversial issues.  She has successfully designed and facilitated group processes for a variety of public and private organizations. Over the past 12 years Brenda has focused her work predominately in the oil and gas sector in northern Alberta and northeast British Columbia (Canada). She also has experience working on power generation projects, intensive livestock operations, education programs, as well as working with Aboriginal communities. Prior to starting her own business, Brenda was employed in the oil and gas sector as a Community and Aboriginal Relations Liaison.

BRENDA WALTON operates her own consulting firm, Kairos Creative Solutions, which specializes in the designing and delivery of stakeholder engagement programs including the development of social impact assessments; the designing and delivery of community relations programs; and mediation. Over the past 12 years her work has focused predominately in the oil and gas sector in northern Alberta and northeast British Columbia. Brenda joined IAP2 in 1996 and has served on the Wild Rose Chapter Board since 2004. She became a licensed trainer with IAP2’s Certificate Program in 2007. She has a Certificate in Corporate Community Relations through Boston College, and is a member of the Alberta Arbitration and Mediation Society (AAMS).

Experience as a public participation practitioner (including area/industries of expertise):
I have several years experience as a research consultant working in the area of sustainability, decision-making and participation.

I work in local government on a range of community engagement projects including a 20-year community vision project for a major regional centre.

Since 2004 I have been a full-time community engagement, community development and sustainability consultant. I have also trained extensively in engagement for public and community sectors. I have facilitated a large number of public meetings and public hearings. I have worked across a broad range of industries including the private sector, local and state government, and the community sector. I have worked with public and private property development companies and consortia, renewable energy firms, federal and state government authorities.

I was a co-author of the book Beyond Public Meetings: Connecting Community Engagement with Decision-making.
I have a presented a number of papers on Community Engagement at planning and environment/sustainability conferences.
I have designed and delivered workshops on planning community engagement for project managers in the infrastructure construction sector.

Additional information:
I have a particular interest in the area of sustainable development. In particular I like to make the connection between community engagement and better decisions and a more sustainable future. I am very interested in how technical experts such as scientists, technicians and engineers can engage the community of interest in conversations in order to inform better decisions on technical questions such as how should we generate our energy? Can we reduce energy water and resource demand and if so how? How can we as a community best respond to the challenge of global warming?
